Key-Systems drives the new domain ending .SAARLAND

As a founding member of the non-profit organization “dotSaarland e.V.”, the domain registrar, Key-Systems, gets involved with the introduction of the new top-level domain (TLD) .SAARLAND, like .DE or .COM.

The association dotSaarland, with its office in St. Ingbert (federal state: Saarland, Germany), was founded in October 2009. It addresses Saarland's citizens, as well as political, economic and societal representatives and all people who feel connected to Saarland. The federal state, Saarland, is one of the nine founding members of the association (represented by the Ministry of Economics).

Currently there exist 21 generic top-level domains, such as .COM or .INFO. Additionally, 249 country-code TLDs (ccTLDs), such as .DE (Germany) and .FR (France), are available. Presumably in 2011 the highest internet agency ICANN (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers), will accept applications for new generic top-level domains.

The domain extension .SAARLAND shall make the Internet more attractive for all inhabitants of Saarland. It shall enhance the public spirit and the co-operation of different societal groups in the federal state. In addition, .SAARLAND shall further develop the IT profile of Saarland.

The dotSaarland association lobbies for the interests of the Saarland community and acts as a mediator to the future operator dotSaarland GmbH and CANN. Being the highest internet agency, ICANN is responsible for the application for a new TLD like .SAARLAND. Additionally, the members of dotSaarland e.V. are going to promote the TLD and the concept of .SAARLAND at events and in publications. Local politics, science, culture and economy will be included in the work of the organization.

In case of a successful application for .SAARLAND at ICANN, Key-Systems will be the technical operator for the registry dotSaarland GmbH. The registry is the central organization, where it will be possible to register an internet address with the ending .SAARLAND.

Key-Systems supports project for the introduction of dotMadrid

The domain specialist, Key-Systems, together with the international law office Estudio Juridico Serrano Internacional (EJSI) and the Spanish Internet Service Provider Dinamiq SL, drives the implementation of an Internet name space for the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Also Paris, London, Rome and Berlin aspire to have their own top-level domain (TLD).

Key-Systems will be the technical operator of the registry for .Madrid. However, first the association Punto Madrid has to apply for the introduction of .Madrid to the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). ICANN is responsible for the introduction of generic top-level domains (gTLDs) like .COM, .ORG or .Madrid. Internet addresses with the ending .Madrid will probably be accessible from 2011 on (at the earliest). Information about the state of the application for .Madrid will be presented on the website www.puntoMadrid.org in the future.

Key-Systems currently manages more than 2.7 million domains. According to domain info-portals like Registrarstats.com it is one of the 15 largest domain registrars worldwide. The company with 52 employees has direct access to the registries of more than 200 country code and generic domain endings like .DE or .COM. For the last eight years, Spanish customers have been able to register and manage domains via the Spanish version of domaindiscount24.com.

EJSI is a Spanish law office located in Madrid with a strong international presence because of offices in Berlin, Rome, Milan, Lisbon and Warsaw. Dinamiq is currently one of the leading Spanish companies for the development of websites.
